Environmental - Geotechnical - Testing

Project Background

Geotest Services was engaged to provide geotechnical and environmental services during construction works associated with an upgrade of the racecourse at Kembla Grange. Works included earthworks and pavement construction, as well as remediation of soils impacted by acid sulphate soil identified during site works.

Works Undertaken:

  • Geotechnical services were provided during earthworks and pavement construction, including proof rolling, site inspections, CBR testing and compaction testing. These works supported verification of subgrade conditions, earthworks conformance and suitability of materials for pavement construction

  • Acid sulfate soil–impacted materials were treated on site using 95% agricultural lime. Lime was mixed through the soils to neutralise acidity and manage acid sulfate soil risks. Treatment effectiveness was monitored using field pH testing (pH field and pH FOX), with validation testing undertaken to confirm soils were suitable for reuse within the works.

Project Outcome

  • Geotechnical supervision and testing confirmed earthworks and pavement materials were placed and compacted in accordance with design and specification requirements, supporting compliant construction.

  • Acid sulfate soils were successfully treated on site and validated prior to reuse, allowing treated materials to be incorporated into the civil works and avoiding the need for off-site disposal.
