Leichhardt
Environmental - Geotechnical - Testing

Project Background
Geotest Services was engaged to provide waste classification, water testing and geotechnical services during redevelopment works at the Site, where an existing bus yard was being upgraded to support a transition to fully electric buses. Works included excavation, trenching and infrastructure upgrades associated with the conversion.
Works Undertaken:
Waste classification was undertaken, including identification and delineation of asbestos-containing materials, to support compliant off-site disposal and limit the volume of impacted material requiring removal.
Water sampling and laboratory testing were carried out on accumulated trench water to assess suitability for lawful off-site disposal in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Geotechnical services were provided during excavation and trenching works, including trench stability inspections, compaction testing and thermal resistivity testing to support safe excavation and installation of electrical infrastructure.

Project Outcome
Asbestos-containing materials were identified and delineated, allowing impacted areas to be managed effectively and reducing the volume of asbestos material requiring off-site disposal. Asbestos removal was undertaken in accordance with relevant guidelines, supporting safe handling practices and protection of workers and surrounding areas.
Trench water was tested and lawfully disposed of off site in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Geotechnical inspections and testing confirmed safe trenching conditions and the suitability of ground conditions for construction and electrical infrastructure works.
